Lovely vintage children’s book.
First edition, published 1946.
‘The Story of Timothy Twitter’ by Margaret Alleyne, with illustrations by Mary B Robinson
Published by Frederick Warne & Co (the same publishing house as Beatrix Potter, and you can tell there is a similar style with pretty vignette watercolours and pen and ink line drawings.)
It tells the tale of a little mouse called Timothy who has a falling out with his wife Hetty over breakfast. Things go from bad to worse as he storms out of the house in a mood, meets a stranger, unwittingly acquires some stolen apples, and ends up arrested by the local policeman Mr Flattimouse.
Fair condition and complete with dusk jacket. The DJ is somewhat aged with handling marks and small tears around the edges, the hardboard cover is just very slightly warped (not quite flat – but very subtle). Inside, the final page is slightly adhered to the back board, and there is some yellowing with age throughout. (I am trying to be as descriptive as possible but honestly this is otherwise in nice condition, and a lovely little book!).
